A Sorely Needed New Chair for Shellie

Sad old chair and middle aged bottom = bad mix. (Note the cat tail?  That’s Ziggy! I decided to show the rest of that annoying fur ball  since he would not cooperate when I was taking the picture)

I use this old ratty computer chair which I purchased at a local Napa Valley second hand store. I purchased it for my business working as an Aesthetician doing facials, makeup, and waxing. That was 8 years ago. At the time it was 4 dollars. It looks it, but what a deal!

As you can see it is spotted with paint, faded, and just plain pathetic – and it looks better in the picture than it does in real life. I have since tried to replace it with a newer model from IKEA but it was so uncomfortable for long term sitting that I have since reverted back to this old chair.

You ask me how do you manage with a chair like that?

Well, I won’t for much longer because now is my chance for a change of chairs. Get this amazing bit of synchronicity - I have been contacted by Jason at CSN Office Furniture and have been asked to review a chair for their site. Thank you Jason!

I have decided that I should go for both comfort, aesthetics, and functionality all within an ergonomic model since I spend hours each day working at the computer. Here is the link to the options that I had to choose from. If you are however looking for a more luxurious model (I would have loved one of these chairs) take a look at this gorgeous line of ergonomic chairs – Herman Miller.

To be sure of my choice my “inner geek” had to do a bit of research on the subject of what is important when looking for a computer chair where one sits all day. I found several links and some helpful information at the CSN site as well an OSHA link, both informative.

This is the chair I decided upon. It is called the Office Star. It has had great reviews on the CSN site – 13 of them. It is  reasonably priced, and fits most of the specifications for ergonomic chairs stated on the OSHA site. Click on the picture for the CSN site link for this particular chair.

Now all I have to do is wait for it to arrive via UPS and post what I think about it with a picture at my desk space – which is really the dining room table - we shall blame that one on John (the husband) for confiscating the window desk.

Chair review coming soon!

Sorry Europe and Australia the home and office furniture from CSN is only available within the US and Canada.

Congratulations on your new chair! Was it the "messy desk" debacle that made you decide to go for it? I know you mentioned being unhappy with your chair. Comfort is so important in terms of computer chairs.

BTW, I have a Dragon Award for you over at my Reflections blog.

Laurel -
This chair thing has been in the works for over a month. I could not decide which one and how to post it.
But it is now in the works.

Thanks a bunch for the award! I will be right over to collect it. :)

Oh so lucky, a new chair! :) Enjoy!

I laughed at your cat tail. We have black dog paw/tail/nose in most all of our pictures.

Oh, this is great! That's awesome you are getting a free chair to review! The one you picked looks awesome, too!

And hey, At least that 4 dollar chair was loved!

Krista -
Four dollars is really amazing for a chair that has been used as much as I have used it. I love stuff like that.
Lets say this chair is not entirely free....nuff said. :)

Nice wine rack. You can tell what I consider important.

I sit at the kitchen table with my laptop and the chair is only just tolerable which probably keeps me from spending hour after hour on the computer.

My son just replaced his original chair .. looked much like yours, with a much researched new one ..looks much like yours and is much happier.

We forget sometimes how important our seat really is.

Great to see you out and about. :)

We love our wine rack. lol. I am not sure if filling it or emptying it is more fun.

A sore bottom is not good, and a bad back is even worse. I cannot wait.

Sweet opportunity, Shellie. Best of luck with the review process. It should be fun to write, too!

Logan -
I am looking forward to using it for a week or so and letting everyone know how it feels compared to my old, sad chair.
Thanks for the comment.

I can't believe I'm congratulating someone for a chair, but here goes:

Congratulations, Shellie, on your new chair.

Let me know if hubby gets something new at Home Depot so I can congratulate him too.

LOl - Well thank you :)
But lets see what my bottom says after two weeks sitting on it - the true review so to speak.
Goodness knows I may be back to old faithful in and hour.
We shall see.

Hi Elizabeth (& Shellie),

Here's the big question - is that wine rack half full or is it half empty?

ELIZABETH said...

and has it bottles of wine I'd like to try?

So many questions.

Shellie.... I am doing fantastically well and have to remind myself not to overdo it.

John -
You sneaked that one in on my, and since you are an editor I did not realize your comment.

Lol - My answer is that it can never be too full :)

Elizabeth -
Yes there are a couple of bottles there. One is from a winery in the Napa Valley its called Pine Ridge. Its a chardonnay. Yummy.

Pine Ridge is a lovely winery that used to only sell from its cellars but now is apparently selling in Arizona. I used to love to go there. *sigh*

I am so glad to hear that your doing well. I have heard so many women are so happy with the results.

Its hard not to over do it especially if your used to doing a lot and have to rely on another person ie a husband - no matter how wonderful he is. ;)

Take care.

Your purchase looks almost exactly like the chair my wife picked up for us last spring. It's comfy and works fairly well. The only complaint I have is that the bolts on the underside/back section come loose far too often. I have to remember to tighten them up at least once a week or the back of the chair will start wobbling its way off. Otherwise, it's great.

As a heads up, I've awarded you a blog award...stop by my blog to pick it up. :)

Well I certainly hope this is a different chair. I am not good at remembering to tighten bolts.

Thank you for the award I am on my way to pick it up. :)
