The Nebula Awards ~ winners announced tonight!

The Nebula Award ~ is one of the premiere awards for Science Fiction & Fantasy. The writings from the previous year are nominated by peers within the genre - the members of the SFWA – (Science Fiction & Fantasy Writers of America.) So it’s a bit like the Academy Awards for speculative writing – including short stories, novelettes, novellas and several other categories. Here is the list of the novels nominated for 2010.

The Native Star ~ by M.K. Hobson  (Spectra)

The Hundred Thousand Kingdoms ~ by N.K. Jemisin  (Orbit)

Shades of Milk and Honey ~ by Mary Robinette Kowal  (Tor)

Echo ~ by Jack McDevitt  (Ace)

Who Fears Death ~ by Nnedi Okorafor  (DAW)

Blackout/All Clear ~ by Connie Willis (Spectra)

If interested link to the SFWA’s complete list of nominees and categories including Amazon links.

I have read one short story from those nominated - ‘‘Ghosts of New York’’ ~ by Jennifer Pelland  (Dark Faith) – links to Shellie’s mini review.

My vote for novel goes for Shades of Milk and Honey and it would be at the top of my list of books to read of those nominated. John’s vote or book that he would choose to read first is Blackout/All Clear. Isn’t interesting that the authors are mostly women!

Which have you read? Which do you want to read and/or which novel do you think will win?

I haven't read any of them, but I've now added several from your list to my wishlist. Thanks for sharing them.

As soon as I saw the list of nominees (a few weeks ago?), I immediately downloaded the "free sample" chapters of each title on Amazon. Most of them, anyway. I already had a copy of the Nemisin book purchased, but haven't read it yet...

all that to say, I haven't read any of them yet, but I will at least sample them all. Ah, I love my iPad + kindle app!

Not read any of these & at the moment have reached a TBR impasse, not sure I can clear it this year. Are you a fan of Mervyn Peake or Michael Moorcock, as there is a book called The Sunday Books which is written by Moorcock based on illustration by peake.

And the winner is - Connie Willis's - Blackout! John will be gloating all day long....

Sarah - have you checked out the SFWA's site they have loads of recommendations as well as the back list for all the winners. lol... that will add a few for your pile?

Also Tor has a collection from the previous years winners & nominees all in one volume - but not the novels coming out in a few days here...

David!!!!!!

Oh I want an iPad.. my nook has broken twice. Yes I am on my third nook. I am envious!!!

B&N has two award nominees from Orbit - Jemisan's book and Feed - that zombie book - for 3 dollars via ebook. Feed - is really good if you like to escape while reading.

I think iPad has an app for B&N as well. Not to mention their free ebook Friday....they have sample down loads as well.

Parrish -
A TBR read impasse? no way!!!! never!!!!

John has read one of Moorcock's books recently it was reviewed here on the blog - do not know of Peake. Will have to check that out.
Is he the guy who does the artwork for his books?

Off to do a Google.

Peake was something of an artist, as well as the Author of Gormenghast a trilogy, more about here-http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gormenghast_(series).
I was a massive Moorcock fan in my midteens voraciously devouring all his books I could find. Hadn't thought about him in years, till I saw he was behind a new Dr Who yarn, as has Neil Gaiman & now the book with Peake.

Gary - Sounds interesting. I do have the Gormenghast series on my shelf at goodreads and thought that Peake's name sounded interesting...
will be checking that out too!

I hope you had a great weekend!
